KNOWING GOD ... OMNI = ALL
The PDF of this Lesson...
With a Game (in Various PDFs), the Quiz, and Verses to Memorize
While we will never be God, or an angel, in some ways we can be like God. God loves people. So can we. He always tells the truth. We should follow His example. God forgives others. We can be like Him when we don’t hold onto hurts that others have done to us. Those are just a few examples.
There are some things about God that we can never copy. Three of those traits begin with the prefix “omni”, which means “all”. God is OMNIscient, OMNIpresent, OMNIpotent.
When we say that God is OMNISCIENT it means that He has all knowledge. OMNI = all and “scient” = science or knowledge. There isn’t anything that God does not know.
After you finish a unit in school your teacher gives you a test to see how much you have learned. You might study the night before and still not get all of the answers right.
Many people go on game shows where they are asked all kinds of questions. Some know a lot, but no one knows everything.
God would get every answer right on your test and He would win every game show! There are billions of people in the world and the Bible tells us that God knows how many hairs are on each head. It also tells us that God knows how many stars there are and He knows each one of them by name.
God knows everything that everyone thinks, says or does. That’s hard for us to understand, but it’s true. That’s how great God is. He knows all about you. He knows your favorite color, food, and activity. He knows if you are happy or if you are sad. He knows all of your problems and all of the good things that happen to you.
God is also OMNIPRESENT. Omni = all and present = present. God is everywhere at the same time. There is no place that you can go where God isn’t. Have you ever played hide and seek? Maybe you have a perfect hiding spot where you are never found. There is no place in the universe where you could hide from God. We read in the Bible about some people who tried to hide from God. They failed and so will you.
Adam and Eve tried to hide from God right after they disobeyed Him by eating from the tree of the Knowledge of good and evil. God knew right where they were.
Jonah tried to hide from God by running away and hiding in a boat. God sent a storm and a whale. God knew where he was.
Because God is everywhere you don’t have to be afraid. He is with you no matter where you go. It also means that you need to think twice before you sin because God is right there with you and He knows all that you are doing.
The Bible teaches us that God is OMNIPOTENT. Omni = all and potent means “power”. God has all power. There is absolutely nothing that God cannot do, except sin.
There are many big machines that move heavy loads. Truck and tractor pulls show off just how powerful they are, but eventually their power runs out and they can pull the load no further.
Maybe when you wake up in the morning your feel great. You go out and play all day. You ride your bike, play basketball, build a fort, go on a hike, jump rope, and play tag. After supper you lay down on the couch and before you know it you are fast asleep.
You might see men building a house. They carry lumber up ladders and nail them in place. They carry heavy blocks and put them into place. At the end of the day they go home tired so that they can get rest. The next day they do it all over again.
You see everything and every person on earth have limited power. Some may be stronger than others, but nothing is stronger than God. His power has no limits. He does not get tired or weak and He never needs to rest or sleep. He never has to use all of His power to do anything.
He showed us His great power by creating our world and all of the universe just by speaking it into existence. The Bible is also full of stories of how God used His power to help His people.
GOD ALWAYS USES HIS POWER FOR GOOD –
WE SHOULD USE THE POWER WE HAVE TO DO GOOD AND NOT EVIL.
CONCLUSION
What does all of this mean to us? It means that we never have to be afraid because we have a God who has all knowledge and power and there is no place where we can go where God isn’t. He’s with us everywhere and there is no problem that He doesn’t know about nor does He lack the power to help us. Because of this we should:
- Praise God for His greatness. Look around for examples of God’s power.
- Put our trust in Him. He will use His great power to help you too.
