Obeying God by telling others near and far the Good news of Salvation through Jesus Christ.
He said to them, "Go throughout the whole world and preach the gospel to all people.” Mark 16:15
After Jesus had died on the cross and risen again, He showed Himself to His disciples for 40 days and then He went back up to heaven. Before He left, He commanded His followers to preach the GOSPEL to every person on earth. The word GOSPEL means ‘’GOOD NEWS”. The good news of the gospel is that Jesus paid the price for our sins on the cross so that we can have our sins forgiven and go to live in heaven forever when we die.
What do you do when you get a really awesome gift for Christmas or your birthday? Hopefully you say “thank you” first, but then you probably can’t wait to tell all of your friends about it. When you ask Jesus to forgive you from your sins you receive the greatest gift ever! First, we should always be thankful to Jesus for dying for us. Then we should be eager to tell all of our friends about it. Salvation is one gift that you can have and all of your friends too.
The early Christians told those around them about Jesus, but God also called certain people to travel to far away places to spread the good news. These missionaries traveled by foot or donkey to places where Jesus’ name had never been spoken. The missionaries preached in Jewish churches or on the streets to all who would listen. Some people believed them, but others laughed at them or even beat and killed the missionaries.
Even with all of the troubles they had, the Good News did spread and has continued to be told down through the centuries. It is God’s will that we keep on telling it.
MISSIONS TODAY
God wants all of us to tell those around us the good news. However, He still calls people to go to faraway places and tell others who have never heard about Him. Missionaries today do not have to walk or ride a donkey. We have many more modern tools to use and many more “jobs” are used to reach the lost.
Modern missionaries still teach people face to face, but they also use radio and computers. Some countries won’t allow a missionary into their land, but the people there can hear about Jesus on the internet or over the radio. These have been mighty tools to spread the Gospel.
Missionaries are also Doctors, nurses, farmers, pilots, builders and translators. Maybe God will one day call YOU to go somewhere special for Him. In the meantime, tell others NOW!
HOW CAN YOU HELP MISSIONS NOW?
Pray – If you go to church, find out the name of a missionary, learn about them and then pray for them.
Give – When you get money for allowance or for doing odd jobs, give some in the offering for missions.
Go – Be a missionary where you are. Go to your neighbors and friends and share the Gospel.
Help – Find ways to help around your house and neighborhood. By living the Christian life before others you will be helping them to see God’s love.
Prepare – This is a very important point. God wants you to learn all you can about the Bible and to learn skills like carpentry, computers, writing, cooking and first aid. These will help you to be ready for whatever He calls you to do. (Plus, it’s fun to learn new things!)
MISSIONS – WHAT DO WE SAY? (WHAT IS THE GOSPEL?)
If your friends would ask you, “How do you get to heaven?” would you know what to say? If you will take the time to memorize a few phrases and verses, you will always be ready to tell them.
1 – GOD LOVES YOU. We want to start with good news, and it is true that no matter how bad you’ve been God still loves you and wants you to live with Him forever in a wonderful place called Heaven. John 3:16
2 – I HAVE SINNED. There is a problem, though. We all have sinned (Romans 3:23). Heaven is a perfect place and God will not allow any sin there. Unless we can get rid of our sins, we will not be able to go there.
3 – JESUS DIED FOR ME. The penalty for sin is death, being separated from God. Jesus loved us so much that He was willing to DIE IN OUR PLACE. On the cross He took your punishment for sin. Romans 5:8
4 – I RECEIVE HIM. Salvation is called a “gift of God”. Like any gift YOU have to RECEIVE it. When you Admit you are a sinner, Believe that Jesus died for you, and Call on Him to save you, He will! John 1:12
5 – I AM SAVED. When you have your sins forgiven you are saved, which means God will not punish you for your sins. Jesus has already taken the punishment. You will live forever with God in heaven after you die. Acts 16:31
(John 3:16) For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
(Romans 3:23) For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
(Romans 5:8) But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
(John 1:12) But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name:
(Acts 16:31) “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household.”
