God answers to no one. God rules over all.
In the end everything will end up just the way He wants.
And he hath on His vesture and on his thigh a name written,
KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.
Revelation 19:16
Wouldn’t it be fun to be a King (or Queen)? You’d get to have people serve you and you could boss them around. You could make the rules for your kingdom and you wouldn’t even have to obey them. You’d probably live in a castle or palace and have lots of money, so you could buy what you’d want.
However, you would also be responsible for the lives of your subjects, the people you ruled. If things didn’t go well in your kingdom people would hate you and they might even, try to kill you.
Throughout the history of man there have been thousands of kings and rulers. Some have been good, and they were loved by their subjects. Others were cruel and mistreated those under them. They may have been different in many ways, but they all have one thing in common. Their kingdoms ended. They either died and someone else took their place or they were conquered by an enemy and their throne was taken away.
The Bible tells us that Jesus is the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. He is different than any human king because His kingdom will NEVER end. One day every person, including the most powerful kings who have ever lived, will bow before Jesus and proclaim Him The King. Even you will bow on that day.
The people of ancient Egypt worshipped many gods. These gods weren’t real, but they thought that they were. Their king, called a Pharaoh, even thought that he was a god. The Pharaoh made God’s chosen people, the Jews, slaves in his land. He made them work hard making bricks and building his temples, palaces and pyramids.
One day the Jews cried out to God to rescue them from being slaves. God sent a man named Moses to deliver them.
Moses boldly went into the Pharaoh’s throne room and said, “The God of the Jews says, “Let My people go!” Pharaoh must have laughed and said, “The Jews God. Who is He? He is but a God of slaves. I will not let them go.”
God wasn’t worried, however. He is in control of all things and He even let Pharaoh say “no” for a while. God did this to show His great power. The One True God would show up the gods of the Egyptians, even the mighty Pharaoh.
The Egyptians worshipped the Nile River. They used its water for drinking, cooking, bathing and for their crops. The first thing that God did to show His might was to turn the water of the Nile and all the water in the land into blood. Fish died, and people had to dig deep wells to get water to drink. You would think that Pharaoh would let the Jews go, but he said “no” once again.
Then God sent frogs into the land. They were everywhere. When people woke up their beds were covered with frogs. You couldn’t walk without stepping on one. They even got in the bread. Pharaoh begged for the frogs to leave, but once they were gone, he wouldn’t let the Jews go.
Next God sent lice. They crawled all over the people, even Pharaoh. Then God sent flies. Have you ever had one fly bother you? The Egyptians had to put up with millions of flies. Still Pharaoh said, “no”. God killed the Egyptians cattle; sent boils, big painful sores on the skin, on the Egyptians; ruined their crops with hail; sent grasshoppers to eat what was left; and sent 3 days of thick darkness over the land. Even after all this the Pharaoh refused to let God’s people go. He was determined that he was stronger than their God.
Finally, God instructed the Jews to take a lamb and kill it. The father was to place the blood of that lamb on the two sides of the doorway and on the top. That night God sent his angel of death over the land. If the angel saw the blood on the doorpost, he passed over that house. If he saw no blood, he killed the first born in that home. Most Egyptians woke up to find their firstborn dead. This happened even to the Pharaoh. It was this that finally made him give up. He let the Jews go.
It didn’t last for long though, as he changed his mind. As he tried to chase the Jews through the Red Sea (which God had miraculously parted) his whole army was drowned before his eyes. This powerful king lost it all because he refused to recognize God as the King over him.
CONCLUSION
Many people make the same mistake. They think that they can run their lives better than God so they don’t ever think about what God wants or says. It’s like going on an airplane and telling the pilot that you want to fly the plane and not him. How foolish. The pilot knows what he’s doing, and you don’t.
God made us and keeps us. He showed His great love by sending His Son, Jesus, to die for us. God knows everything, is all wise, and has all power. He could make us do what He wants, but instead He allows us to choose whom we will obey. We can be the king and make lots of mistakes, or we can make God our King and live joyfully for Him. We make a wise choice when we make God our king by following Him, obeying Him and worshipping Him.
